SecuriGroup’s Cyber Week: Using Smart Devices Safely
Smart devices are 'hi-tech' and everyday items that connect to the internet, and just like smartphones, laptops and PCs, smart devices can be hacked leaving your data and privacy at risk.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) provides simple measures you can take in order for you to stay protected:
- Setting up your device properly – be sure to review the manufacturer documentation to ensure you have set up your device correctly
- Check the default settings – review the default device passwords, and if easily guessable, change it
- Proactively manage your account – If the device offers two-factor authentication, use it
- Keep your device up to date
If you become aware of an incident and you think your device has been affected, visit the manufacturer's website for appropriate guidance, or perform a factory reset of your product.
