SecuriGroup is looking back over a 'season of success' with Forth Ports having supported one of the company's busiest ever cruise seasons.
Earlier this year, SecuriGroup announced the award of a landmark five-year security partnership with Forth Ports, one of the UK's largest port operators – including an extensive security presence to support the cruise liner season.
The dynamic UK-based multimodal ports owner and operator offers businesses a wide range of diverse, port-related services; through its logistical gateways across the country, Forth Ports helps to connect the UK with Europe and the rest of the world.
Overseen by Dedicated Contract Manager, Alfie Cummings, and supported by the regional management team, SecuriGroup worked with Forth Ports to manage more than 150,000 passengers over 100 cruise ships – providing over 20,000 delivered hours in support of our client.
"The team has gone the extra mile in providing a first class service, showing a commitment to hard work, partnership and continuous improvement.
"SecuriGroup staff have been complimented regularly by passengers, crew, and ship's agents as well as our own staff."
Rob Mason, Forth Ports Head of Security
Delivering a 'Season of Success'
An excellent service is delivered by excellent people, so the key to our success with Forth Ports has been an effective recruitment and training campaign, bringing in the best people and providing them with high-quality, bespoke training.
All recruitment was overseen by dedicated recruitment support, Susanne Bassett, and specialist training was delivered including port environment training in line with the International Ship and Ports Security (ISPS) Code.
Working within a strictly regulated environment, accredited training was also provided to the core team of managers. Following extensive training course and intensive assessments, the core management team are accredited Ports Facility Security Officers (PFSO).
Police Scotland also accepted an invitation to send one of their own Counter Terrorism Security Officers on a SecuriGroup sponsored PFSO course, building on the adage that people who work together should train together.
Working within a specialist port environment, security is a critical priority. To support unique site requirements, SecuriGroup provided a range of unique technological solutions including extra training to use x-ray screening and other equipment which form part of the port security regime.
In addition to the specialist equipment, training and environment, the sheer scale of the security requirements was impressive in its own right.
At the height of the cruise season, SecuriGroup provided Forth Ports with as many as 84 officers as eight cruise ships berthed over two days – which was also spread over four major ports at Leith, Newhaven, Dundee, and Rosyth.
With thousands of visitors from each ship, overlapping cruises, and maintaining communication links with up to 10 different cruise operators at any time, the success of the cruise season was a real team effort and a result of effective communication and proactive management.
By all measurements, it has been a rewarding debut cruise season, and the company is looking forward to building on our learning to deliver an even better second season.
SecuriGroup is dedicated to continuous excellence, which is an approach supported by continued learning and development, and is the only way to achieve a first class service.
