The landmark undergraduate course is a creation of Glasgow Caledonian University and security operations consultancy, CAMOR.
SecuriGroup Chair, Baroness Ruth Henig, and Operations Director, Allan Burnett, recently attended the launch of the course in the Caledonian University campus in London.
Organised crime networks, terrorists, hostile foreign actors, protesters and insiders continually seek to exploit security vulnerabilities and develop new attack methodologies. The BSc (Hons) Applied Integrated Security Operations is a unique opportunity to integrate academic study with vocational skills.

Delivered through a blended learning approach that combines face-to-face teaching and online study, this work-based programme gives security professionals the opportunity to study for a university degree using a part-time and flexible approach that works around your individual working needs.
The programme will assist you to develop a security culture that protects and prepares your organisation for a wide range of security threats while augmenting your leadership and business acumen.
This degree course is an excellent opportunity for individuals within the security industry to continue their professional and academic development, consolidate their experience, and build the required knowledge and frameworks to be able to plan strategically for existing and future threats.
Beginning in January 2020, the programmes include:
- Top-up BSc Honours course in 'Applied Integrated Security Operations' with the full undergraduate programme starting later in the year.
- MBA in Applied Professional Practice (Security Operations)
SecuriGroup Chair, Baroness Ruth Henig, provided a keynote speech at the official launch of the course. Baroness Henig took the opportunity to highlight the appetite for further professionalism within the security industry supported by regulation.
In her speech, Baroness Henig also welcomed the pathway provided by the course to those who are looking to forge a career within the private security sector. One of the key reasons the SecuriGroup Chair is providing her support to the programme is her belief that the courses 'bridge the gap between theory and practice'.
The event ended with a panel Q&A session which included Baroness Henig and SecuriGroup Operations Director, Allan Burnett QPM.
Mr Burnett, former ACPOS Coordinator of Counter-terrorism with Police Scotland, provided his thoughts on the new programmes:
