UK's COVID-19 Alert Level to be Increased to Level 4

The UK's Coronavirus Alert Level is being upgraded from Level 3 to 4. This means that transmission of the virus is "high or rising exponentially," according to the UK Government's chief medical officers.

We are yet to learn how this will ultimately affect further enforced social distancing measures or restrictions. An announcement from the Prime Minister is expected on Tuesday 22nd September 2020.

This increase in Alert Level comes after a period of increased infection rate across all UK nations, with the number of confirmed cases increasing by over 3,000 since the beginning of August. 

Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, said that the move reflected the country's "tipping point in its response and it is vital everybody plays their part now to stop the spread of the virus and protect lives."
