A guide for what you need to know if you are interested in working with SecuriGroup within the private security industry.
The private security industry is surprisingly diverse, offering interesting professional challenges within a range of unique working environments.
Despite being one of the few industries which has consistently grown in size and prestige over the last decade, it is still overlooked as a long-term career option.
The range of licenses which are available, and the many abilities and responsibilities held by those who qualify for them, points to an interesting career path which offers a number of unique opportunities.
For professionals who are looking to build a career within the industry, training and applying for an SIA Licence is essential.
Whilst there are a number of specialist licences available, most people who join the industry choose to apply for the Door Supervisor licence; DS licence holders are qualified to work both as a professional Door Supervisor and a Security Guard.
Those who hold a Security Guard licence cannot work in licensed premises.
How to get a Security Guard Licence
The process of joining the security industry is a simple one: complete the required training, with an approved training organisation, and apply to the Security Industry Authority (The SIA) for a security licence.
- Complete the relevant SIA training course.
- Receive a certificate once you have passed the course.
- Apply for a licence on the SIA website.
What is the SIA and what do I need to know about it?
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is the organisation responsible for regulating the private security industry within the UK. They are an independent body reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001.
As an industry leading organisation, SecuriGroup is one of the highest rated SIA approved organisations, independently assessed as within the top 5% of UK suppliers.
In addition to ensuring private security companies operate to the highest standards of excellence, the SIA is responsible for the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking specialist security activities within the private security industry.
Licensing ensures that private security operatives are 'fit and proper' persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job.
